Pemex continues to report poor production metrics, aggravating the crisis in the sector. The NOC reported natural gas production metrics for June, showing a slight recovery, but insufficient to solve the current crisis.
Pemex has had to increase import levels in almost all its business areas to attend the local market due to its operational problems. The company reported import volumes for 2Q18, with a huge year-over-year growth in petrochemicals imports.
Pemex reported oil export figures for June and these decreased compared to previous month, but this metric had a good performance in the first half of the year. Shipments increased considerably to the United States, counteracting decreases to other regions. The Far East continues as the second destination for Mexican crude.
Researcher and professor at San Luis Potosí College, Francisco Peña, said that Pemex will develop wells in San Luis Potosí using fracking, which violates international standards.
The Mexican Energy Council (Comener) spoke about Pemex’s situation and its possible changes with the arrival of the new president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). The association gave some recommendations to improve the situation of the NOC.
